Farming background

My current job consists of looking after 60 pedigree Beef Shorthorn cows. This role involves the day to day management and associated jobs in regard to the care of the cattle. Alongside the day to day management the role includes rearing and producing bulls for the open market and replacement heifers for use within the herd. Prior to this job I looked after a hill farm nearfor Moffat with pedigree Limousin cattle and NCC sheep but was made redundant due to dispersal of cattle herd. Previously I spent nearly 5 years taking full sole responsibility for the management of a 1500acre organic upland farm in the Scottish Borders. Were I managed a flock of 1200 ewes and owned a 50 cow commercial/pedigree herd. Producing both store/fat lambs and store calves. My partner and I own a herd of 5 pedigree Beef Shorthorn cows which currently run alongside the herd I look after. My big passion in life is bringing out stock for shows and sales. I get no bigger satisfaction than knowing an animal you have reared since a day old has been hand picked by another farmer to become part of their breeding programme.

Outside of farming I enjoy cooking and eating out, watching sports, and clay/game shooting.
