Other equipment experience

I have had experience operating high horse power tractors which include a QuadTrac, Fendt 936, CAT Challenger and John Deere 8360R. For primary cultivations I’ve operated a Kverneland 6 furrow plough, Vaderstad Topdown discs, Korkelling and a V form sub-soiler. For secondary cultivations I’ve operated a power harrow, culti-press, Vadestad carrier, spring-tine cultivator and different types of rolls. For drilling I have operated a Moore combination drill. Crop protection involved operating a self propelled Househam Air-Ride as well as an Amazone, Berthoud and Knight trailed sprayers. Combine harvesters used were 2009 Claas Lexion 550, a 2012 Massey Fergusson MF 7260 paralevel and 1997 John Deere. I have also operated JCB, Manitou, Melo, Bobcat and Matbro telehandlers. In terms of electronic farming systems, I have used John Deere’s GreenStar, the Patchwork and Teejet GPS systems.I have a chainsaw operator's certificate and Category B+E (Car & trailer) licence.

Other livestock experience

I have worked at a 450 herd dairy farm as an assistant herdsperson, involved with milking, bedding using a straw chopper in cubicles and straw yard, hoof trimming, scraping up, looking after the young-stock and general maintenance. I also had a stint working on a 1 000 beef herd farm. I was responsible for looking after the young stock, but got involved in other tasks like TMR feeding and helping cattle in labour.

Farming background

My arable work experience is from working on different farms. My primary cultivation work involved ploughing, discing, subsoiling and drilling. Secondary cultivation included power harrowing, culti-pressing, spring-tining and rolling. Crop protection involved slug pelleting, crop spraying, fertilizer spreading, swathing, combine harvesting, corn carting, grain drying and lorry loading.


I am a volunteer radio presenter for local radio, enjoy going to the theatre, current affairs and playing poole.
