Farming background

2006-2014 Riverside Organic Work on both the food production, and the sales side of the company. Duties include record keeping, animal husbandry, customer relations, sales, cleaning and maintenance of shop floor, general farm maintenance, transportation of livestock using tractors and livestock trailers. Regularly involved in land cultivation and in summer months heavily involved in corn carting, silage production and bailing. On occasion taken school visits to the farm, and have overseen work experience students from local schools and colleges. April 2011- May 2011  Ollerton - Lambed a flock of 1500 composing of 1300 Mules/Suffolks and 200 Jacobs, mainly worked nights alone, but also stayed on some days in order to help move other livestock such as Longhorn Cattle, was responsible for lambing, feeding the ewes and lambs and ensuring they were penned up once they had lambed. June 2011 – July 2012 Telford - Duties include record keeping, animal husbandry, medication of game birds and sheep, crop management, beating on shoot days, preparation for shoot days, tractor/ telehandler work, general farm maintenance often left in a position of responsibility on the farm when the employer is away, preparation for animal movement. Used of a range of machinery including bailers, telehandlers, mowers and heavily involved in corn carting, and cultivation on the farm. August 2012 –September 2013 Spearhead international, Serbia, Romania A university placement year giving experience in the workplace. Three months were spent in Serbia driving one of two Grimmie Vairitron potato harvesters and dealing with their maintenance and having experience with maize silage, The remaining time in employment was spent in Romania three months was spent driving equipment such as sprayers and chaser bins. The rest of the period was spent overseeing the installation of a 3075 ha irrigation project consisting of 28 centre pivot irrigators. The main duties were testing borehole capacities, setting timescales for the project and ensuring work carried out by contractors was of a high standard. Other duties were liaising with suppliers of pumps and irrigators to arrange delivery and to resolve any issues that occurred during the installation process. January 2015 - March 2015 Farm - I was responsible for night lambing a flock of 1200 sheep on this award winning farm, mentoring Agriculture students, record keeping, medicating ewes as necessary. April 2015 - Present - Islay Working on a mixed farm on the Hebridean isle of Islay. The farm consists of 600 ewes which are a mix of Scottish Blackface and Mules, 200 Aberdeen Angus cattle and 100 acres of barley. Duties include lambing, calving, general livestock husbandry, crop management and general farm duties. I have been in charge during the absence of the owner, taking full responsibility for day to day tasks. I have been involved in farm management, shadowing my employer in the running of the farm.
