Farming background

I have previous experience in arable farming, agricultural contracting and driving tractors in a civil engineering environment. I initially completed an apprentice scheme on a large arable farm and then went on to work self-employed, sub-contracting to numerous agricultural contractors and large cereal/potato farmers for the potato planting and harvesting seasons. During this time I completed an NVQ Level 2 qualification in Agriculture & Estate Maintenance through Walford College, Shropshire. I have experience in working as part of a contractor self-propelled silage operation, mowing, bale wrapping and slurry/muck spreading, as well as ploughing, cereal cultivations, potato bed preparation/planting, lettuce planting and harvesting, telehandler/loader operation and cereal/potato/bales/silage trailer work. I spent nearly a year running the planting and irrigation operations for a large lettuce grower. I have operated tractor mounted machinery on a construction site. This was as part of a land restoration project and involved the working down of ground whilst adding lime to the soil prior to building works. This year I have worked for a tree surgery / forestry company and for an agricultural civil engineering company. This has involved the use of tractor mounted winches and cranes in forestry operations, also transporting timber on tractor towed timber trailers. In working for an agricultural civil engineering contractor I have operated tractors and trailers, tractor mounted rotavators and construction plant on sites. I have City & Guilds NPTC chainsaw qualifications and a construction site safety CSCS card. I have a full, clean UK driving licence with towing authorisation. I am a former Police officer with 8 years’ service in West Midlands Police, from 2003 – 2011. In my Police career I served on numerous departments including specialist crime teams, roads policing and the force traffic department. I was trained in risk assessment, health and safety, and first aid. I also hold a Police advanced driving certificate. I left the Police in 2011 with an exemplary record and no outstanding discipline or complaints issues. I am very keen to return to tractor driving work, to utilise my current skill set and learn new ones. I enjoy working hard and have no problem with long, unsociable hours. I am happy to work any trial period as required.
