Farming background

First milked assisting my uncle to milk a 700 head herd through a 24 48 swing over.From here I moved on to work in construction gaining many practical skills useful to farm work.While in Australia I gained more experience in the dairy industry working a 60 point rotary milking 1300 cows. I was mainly responsible for feed and tending to calf's as well as assisting in the dairy moving livestock putting up fences and over general farm maintenance. Since arriving back in the UK I have been working as a trainee Herdsman for a progressive 300 head high yielding herd on a strip grazing system buffer fed in and out of parlor. My responsibilities were for the herd milk quality and the parlor. I have since been working self employed relief milking and on the yard. For the last 18 months i have returned to a previous position promoted to head herdsman fully resposible for herd and parlour maintainance with excellent standards off scc management. I have completed a herdsman foottrimming course and am very confident in cattle hoof care. I have been working closely with management to provide an excellent standard off fertillity management with excellent results. I have a good understanding of the nutritional needs of cattle and basic understanding of grass land management.
