Farming background

My family home is in the Sheltand Islands and i have helped out local crofters since being a young teenager. As I got older I was able to take on more responsibility and help out at lambing time on larger scale farms. 1st farm employer - Shetland, 750+ flock of mixed shetland, 1st cross cheviot and suffolk ewes, indoor system. 2nd employer -  I found a placement in Huntly, Aberdeenshire in my easter break from college. I worked as the sole lambing assistant to an elderly farmer, an outdoor system, flock of 1200+ mixed blackface, mule and mulecross ewes. 16+hour shifts every day for 3 weeks. 3rd employer: I did a weeks work experience on a goat meat farm in Lancaster.  A herd of 140 does to kid in an indoor system. 4th employer: for 2 years I was the lambing assistant on a farm in Wales - 700 welsh, welsh mules and beulah ewes to lamb incl. 200 hogs to lamb.  Also helped with herd of 40+ pedigree welsh black cattle at calving time, hand rearing calves and fattening on bull calves for finishing. After finishing 4 years of study at Agricultural college in Edinburgh I spent some time working for and learning from a sheepdog trainer in Forfar before spending the summer on a mixed farm on the West coast of Scotland. 600+ Cheviot and LLeyn X and Blackface ewes and a herd of 170 Limosin, Angus and Shorthorn X cows run with Charrolais, Short horn and Stabiliser bulls. I then found a full time position where i spent 16 months working on a sheep dairy farm in the West Midlands.  Milking 900+ freisland and freisland x poll Dorset ewes in a 12 month period. Lambing 4 times a year to keep a constant milk supply.  We made an artisan, award winning, unpasteurised, hard, ewes milk cheese onsite which was supplied all over the UK and to US and China. Twice daily milkings and milk monitoring and hygiene control, lamb rearing, care and management of various replacement stock groups. Planning of multiple tupping seasons and ram care. Lambing indoors with lamb removal 24-48hrs after birth onto powdered milk machines. Regular telehandler and tractor use.  The position I held after that was for 23 months on a beef and sheep farm in Dumfries and Galloway.  Regular tractor and frontloader work. Spring and autumn calving. Spring lambing.   All areas of stockmanship and animal handling and husbandry. Vaccinations, medical attention, calving, lambing, gfw tasks including bedding, feeding, basic yard maintenance, fencing, stock checking, quad bike use, livestock sorting and transport. Most recently I completed a 3 week night shift Lambing back home in the Shetland islands. 850 ewes, all sheep handling, husbandry and health aspects. Lamb and dam care pre and post Lambing. Gfw tasks feeding, bedding ect.

I like to socialise with friends and family, play women's rugby, spend time outdoors, walking, sight seeing etc. I also like horse riding and walking my dog.
