Farming background

I am self employed and have been working on various farms in my area since January 2005 gaining as much experience as possible, mainly working with dairy herds, beef suckler herds and sheep. I have experience in poultry rearing and egg collecting aswell.

2007 - Present I am in charge of the day to day running of a herd of 100 Limousin cross bred suckler cows and followers. The farm also runs a flock of 200 cross bred Texel sheep which we lamb in March. The farm grows approximately 200 acres of arable crops on a rotation system including wheat, oats and barley; which are used for feeding the cattle throughout the winter. The crops straw is baled for winter bedding and we make approximately 100 acres of clamped grass silage. My daily duties include upkeep of stock fencing, farm machinery and buildings. I’m involved in preparing animals for market, liaising with vets and agronomists and keeping the farm up to the high standards required to pass regular FABBL (Farm Assured British Beef and Lamb) inspections.

Hobbies

I am keen football supporter and enjoy watching Leicester City, clay shooting, family life.
