Farming background

I currently live and work on my family's mixed farm on the west coast of Wales whilst holding down a full time job working for a local multi franchise 4x4 dealership as a mechanic and also filling in as a HGV mechanic for a haulage firm when they are busy on weekends and nights. My family currently farm around 300 acres, 200 of which is owned and the rest is rented for the summer and winter. They have around 150 head of cattle of which, 70 are pedigree Simmentals (which they breed for themselves) and the rest is a mixed continental herd. We also have around 700 crossbred sheep. I spent 12yrs training and working within the automotive industry as a mechanic and panel beater/sprayer. I have a very extensive range of tools and equipment which could be brought with me to suitable jobs. I have done relief farm work for some local farms in my area and in eastern England. I have spent a number of years working on dairy farms gaining experience within the dairy sector. I have worked for three local contractors over the last 12 yrs gaining experience with various grass and muck machinery. I have worked for 3 years on the east coast of England gaining experience on the hay and straw harvest and with cultivation work which i really enjoyed and made a lot of new friends. I have worked in Scotland for a year where i worked on a family farm by Edinburgh helping them with the cultivation, drilling and harvest work. In 2012 i worked for a large contractor on a large dairy farm milking over 650 pedigree Friesian cattle twice a day and operating a jcb 434 pushing in silage during the summer. I was also doing some night lambing on two different farms in the spring. I spent 3 years working on a farm out in Northern Sweden where I headed up a small successful contracting business (in a very challenging environment) therefore giving the owner more time to focus on his prize winning pedigree Aberdeen Angus herd. Main duties included hiring and training of temp staff for the summer harvests, communicating with different farmers (in Swedish), meeting goals and deadlines, ensuring all equipment was fully maintained in order for it to be running smoothly and efficiently and also to ensure the jobs undertaken were carried out to the farmers satisfaction!! I have also worked very closely with the farmer rearing and preparing sale and show animals and also with delivery across Europe. In 2014 I headed out to Alberta, Canada for 12 months to work as a farm manager on a large beef farm rearing and feeding over 10,000 head of cattle. 1100 were pedigree and the rest were commercial.
