Tractor Driver & Farm Worker job - Leicestershire
Arable, Beef, Sheep, Contractor
UK
LE15
East Midlands
Description

We are looking for an experienced tractor driver and farm worker to work across the entire business, including our 600-acre mixed farm and large garden centre, based near Oakham in Leicestershire.

We are a hands-on, family-run business, now looking for an exceptional, multi-skilled person who can assist with a wide variety of farming tasks. This is a diverse role and will suit someone who is also able to turn their hand to maintenance and other jobs too, in a rapidly expanding, varied and fast paced business.

Tractor driving and telehandler experience is essential as the role includes a wide range of tractor-based jobs, including hedge cutting, grassland maintenance, straw and grass work, baling, bale wrapping, mowing, fertilizer spreading, etc. We also travel to rented sileage ground and undertake contracting jobs for other local farmers, therefore initiative is needed when dealing with customers wanting baling work etc.

When tractor work is quieter, a willingness to get involved with our livestock will be required, for example, helping with feeding, bedding, mucking out, etc. We have a pedigree herd of 160 calving cows, so over 300 cows with followers that we finish ourselves to go through our own farm shop; as well as 600 ewes that we lamb and finish.

We do all our own silage making, grassland, straw and tractor work in-house on well maintained, modern equipment. A basic mechanical understanding and machinery maintenance would be a distinct advantage, as well as problem solving skills.

The role will also include general maintenance work for the farm and an ability to finish maintenance jobs to a high standard is essential. Tasks may also include welding and metal working and any experience in these areas would be useful. Attention to detail is very important, as is having a pride in your work and the equipment you use.

We also undertake all our own building projects in-house, so a willingness to get involved in these too is essential.

If you are looking for an interesting and varied role, then this is a unique, diverse and exciting position that not only allows you to work on your own initiative but also as part of a supportive and friendly team. The ideal candidate must have an energetic, can-do attitude with a great work ethic; be proactive and able to identify when a job needs doing; and have a positive and friendly personality. It offers the right person the opportunity to make a real difference in how the business operates.

This is a full-time, permanent position and will be paid hourly with the opportunity to work additional hours. Salary dependent on experience.
