  • Location: St Austell, Cornwall

  • Salary: From £25k

  • Contract: Full time permanent, 40 hours per week, 08:00 - 16:30 Sunday to Thursday, 28 days holiday a year

 

We are an extraordinary, beautiful and historic Cornish estate, which has become one of Cornwalls most popular and best-loved destinations. In addition to the gardens, we have our own 100 acre Home Farm, which has been a Rare Breed Survival Trust Farm Park since 2017.

We are looking to recruit an experienced Stock Person to help us combine regenerative agricultural practices with our conservation breeding programme of some of our rarest native breeds of livestock in the UK. Our ambition is for the Home Farm to become a showcase for regenerative farm practices, using rare and native breed livestock.

 

Role: You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our small herd of certified Pasture for Life British White and Devon cattle, as well as a range of other rare and native breed livestock from sheep and pigs to poultry. In addition, you will carry out practical land management tasks such as fencing and hedge-laying, as well as monitoring soil and pasture health.

Job responsibilities will include:


  • Daily animal health checks and feeding

  • Mucking out and bedding up

  • Partaking in animal management procedures

  • Carrying out our regenerative grazing plan

  • Farm and estate maintenance

  • Assisting the team with livestock events

 

To be considered for this post it is essential that candidates have relevant qualifications in and/or experience of:


  • Management of cattle and other livestock to a high welfare standard

  • Regenerative grazing and soil management techniques

  • Tractor driving and using a range of tractor-mounted equipment

  • Practical land management

  • Fencing

  • Effective communication skills

  • Full driving licence

In addition to the above, candidates will preferably also have experience of:


  • Basic machinery maintenance

  • Knowledge of ecological principles and UK habitats

  • Public engagement

  • The role will require a high level of commitment, enthusiasm and flexibility.
