Stockperson for Dairy Farm with Robots - Dorset/Somerset Border

We are a small family farm, and we are looking for someone to join our small supportive team to help with the day to day care of the cows. We have got a herd of lovely quiet pedigree Holsteins that are milked by two Lely robots.

The job role:

• The day to day care of the cows


• Brushing off cubicles, scrapping out, bedding-up with a straw chopper and occasionally TMR


• Calving cows and tending to down cows


• We do have a full-time tractor driver, but there are times when you would need to help with basic field work or slurry tanking and fencing


• We rear all of our heifer calves, so caring for calves and young stock is part of the mix; this makes the job interesting because you can follow the development of the pedigree families and get to know their characters

Person specification:

• Confident and quiet around livestock, and able to spot a sick cow early


• Previous experience is essential and the ability to administer veterinary medicines is required


• AI would be an advantage


• Basic computer knowledge is required to use the robots

We are very hands on ourselves, so support is available. For the right person we would help with additional training and skills development.

Our daily routine starts at 6am and finishes about 6pm.
