Do you like your loads big and your days long? We're recruiting for an HGV Class 1 straw wagon driver, taking large bales from farms in the East of England into biomass power stations in the region. Earnings potential £36-£39k pa, regular nights out and some weekend and bank holiday working required.
We are looking to recruit a permanent HGV Class 1 (LGV C+E) Driver to work in our straw haulage operation based out of Bunwell, South Norfolk, UK. The straw wagons are 18m+ long, 4.8m+ high wagon and drag or LST artic combinations designed to carry 36x 4x4 or 48x 4x3 straw bales destined for biomass power generation.
Your start times are currently from 5.00am-7.00am with a day normally taking around 12 hours to complete, although earlier starts may occasionally be required subject to operational requirements. A typical day will take you to a straw storage site on a farm in the East of England where you will be loaded with large or midi hesston bales. You will strap up your load and deliver it to one of our customers fuel storage or processing sites in Norfolk or Cambridgeshire. Due to the structure of the day, it makes sense to be up the road for most of the week, overnighting on farm or near the customers site.
Our work here is varied and we like to be flexible so you may have the opportunity to train and work in other parts of the business too.
Our wider business works 365 days a year so youll need to be up for regular Saturday and very occasional Sunday and bank holiday working. Nights out are also required on straw work. We recognise your contribution on these occasions and at the end of a long day, so youll get good rates of overtime pay. Earnings potential are in the region of £36,000-£39,000pa, depending upon the number of hours you work.
Previous experience of straw haulage would be desirable but not essential as full on the job training for all aspects of our work is provided. Driver CPC training delivered on site by experienced external training providers.
We ask that youre reliable, punctual and able to show your best to our farmers and customers. Were in the food and farming business, so personal hygiene and presentation are important, but we trust that youll be as professional in this regard as you are in your driving and record keeping. Were a family business and we hope that our friendly, experienced and dedicated staff will help make your time here an enjoyable one.
