Job opportunity - 370 Spring calving Herd in South Leicestershire
We manage two dairy farms, 1000 cows and 1270 acres we are looking for a experienced team player to join us on our dairying adventure.
The herd is operated as a flying-herd and rotationally grazed to maximise milk from forgae and to operate a simple system. The farm has had considerable investment in recent years in infrastructure which include, a NZ style 24/48 herringbone milking parlour with handling facilities, 350 cubicles and straw yards and excellent paddock infrastructure to maximise milk from forage.
Our current herdsperson/deputy unit manger is being promoted to unit manager and we are looking for someone to complete our at our dairy.
Your role;
You will be required to work as part of a small, positive, friendly team. This involves working closely with the unit manager to achieve specific targets and maintain excellent results. Within this varied and stimulating role tasks will include, sharing the milkings with the team and being proactive in cow health throughout the year. Seasonal jobs include calving, calf rearing, heat detection, grassland management, basic tractor driving which includes feeding, scraping and bedding.
What we are looking for
Is someone who has a passion for cows with ideally a minimum of 2 years experience of working on a busy dairy farm, tractor experience will be beneficial. Experience of foot trimming and AI would be beneficial, although training can be provided for the right person. A good alarm clock is essential!
