Herdsperson - grass-based dairy farm

We are seeking a Herdsperson to join a forward-thinking and ambitious 500 cow spring calving, pasture based dairy farm.

The Farm

This 600 acre family farm between Presteigne and Knighton in North-West Herefordshire runs a 500 cow Jersey-Friesian cross-bred herd. Milking is done twice daily through a 36/72 herringbone parlour. Calving begins in late February in a 10 week block. The cows are out grazing until the first weeks in November, then kept in cubicles and milked until late December. The farm system has been inspired by the best grazing operators in New Zealand, Ireland and the UK.

The Opportunity

We are recruiting a Herdsperson to assist with all aspects of running the herd. We are looking for someone to work on all aspects of the farm including milking, calf rearing, grass management, herd care, etc. It offers an excellent opportunity for someone seeking a career in grass-based dairy farming. The successful applicant will join an experienced and ambitious team who are constantly looking to learn and improve.

The Applicant

The successful applicant will have a positive attitude and be eager to learn. They must have some dairy experience. They must be honest, punctual and motivated. It is important that applicants have good communication skills and are willing to be an active part of the farm team. Grazing related experience is preferable, but not essential. All grass related skills can be taught.
