Herd Manager job - Wales

Description

We are a family-owned Organic Dairy Farm milking just under 560 cows split evenly into Spring and Autumn blocks. Genetics are quite diverse having crossbred with Brown Swiss, Montbeliarde and Norwegan Red for many years. We are now focusing mainly on Irish and British Friesian bulls, striving for high milk solids from forage.

The business spans over 1400 acres consisting of 350 acres of arable, 540 acres grazing platform and 550 acres of forage. We have a heavy focus on self-sustainable farming, producing all of our own electricity, through our onsite AD plant and solar Pannels, and we grow 95% of the concentrates fed on farm and are aiming for 100% in the next 5 years. We are always improving performance, infrastructure and machinery to make life is easier for the cows and the workforce we have just recently put up a new calf shed to rear young stock and another shed going up in the spring for R2s.

We are no longer wanting to expand the business we are aiming to fine tune the performance and wanting someone to help us achieve this aim. We are now focusing more on diversification as this year starting our social media called Rossett Park Farming with the hope to educate the public on what goes into producing their food. We stared this by opening the tail trail to allow people to see cows and walk their dog safety behind a 4ft fence and are hoping to diversify more into the future.
