Seasonal General Farm Worker, Autumn Calving Herd - Shropshire

We are looking for someone to join our team, initially for the busy calving period from September to January. There may be the opportunity for the role to develop into something permanent for the right person.

About us:

We are a family run dairy farming business just outside Minsterley, near Shrewsbury. We are milking 300 crossbred cows Calving Between September and December, rearing 160 dairy replacements.

The cows produce on average 9,000 litres supplying Arla Foods. The cows are milked through a recently installed new 25/50 herringbone parlour and housed in modern cubicle housing during the winter months. The youngstock are reared, through a new purpose built calf rearing facility. The farm is well equipped with a new diet feeder and Telehandler and good grazing track infrastructure is in place. The farm currently employs a herdsman and tractor driver.

The job role:

The main responsibilities of the role are to support the team during the busy calving period. This will include:

• Regular milking shifts as part of a team of two, including some weekends


• Checking and monitoring calving cows


• Feeding/bedding/scraping out if necessary


• Other farm work as required

About you:

• Some previous experience on a dairy farm or working with livestock


• A high level of stockmanship


• Good attention to detail and the ability to keep records as required


• A driving licence is essential

Accommodation will either be in a mobile home on site, or if you prefer we can arrange something in the local village.

Your milking shifts as part of a team of two will include some weekends.

Job can start as soon as possible.
