Chancellors Dairy is a 200 cow Spring calving herd between Bruton and Frome in Somerset.
Due to the progression within the business of the current herd manager to his own tenancy, and the current assistant becoming herd manager this vacancy has arisen.
The role will be varied to include all aspects of dairy farming including circa 6 milkings per week, heifer rearing as well as tractor driving. The successful applicant must be prepared to use their initiative and work as part of a small team with the manager and apprentice. Due to the block calving nature of the herd there are very busy periods around calving and serving but the remainder of the year is relatively relaxed.
The herd is set across 264 acres with the main of the fertilising undertaken in house, with contractors brought in for silaging making and most of the slurry spreading.
Milk is sold for cheese production to AR & RG Barbers at Ditcheat, meaning we run a crossbred Spring calving herd with the aim of high milk constituents from grazing. The herd is BVD accredited free and always within the top 20% of producers for milk quality.
The farm runs minimal machinery with a Case Farmall 110 with a loader and a Ford 4000 to scrape the yards.
Renumeration will be in line with experience, attendance to discussion group and courses to progress your career will be available if desired. A 3 bedroom wool-away bungalow is available onsite if required.
Finish: Not Specified
The 3 bedroom Wool-a-way bungalow is at the end of the farm drive and has a small garden, drive for two vehicles and a garage. Good local schools can be found at Upton Noble and high school in Frome.
