We are looking for an experienced Herd Manager for a long term role to work with three GFW and reliefs in the day to day management of our Fleckvieh x Holstein dairy unit. Cows are milked 2 x per day through a 40 cow rapid exit Westphalia parlour. The farm follows an all year round calving pattern with 400 cows in milk. All youngstock are reared on farm.

As Herd Manager roles and responsibilities will include:

Regular milking

Responsibility for the management of the team and dairy unit, alongside the farm manager

To supervise the day-to-day management of the herd, ensuring animal welfare is the top priority

Implementing the vaccination policy, agreed protocols and ensuring protocols are followed

Dairy herd record keeping and data reporting through Uniform

Managing foot health, including generating lists for routine foot trimming visits

Engage with the farm manager and external consultants/vets/nutritionist to achieve agreed targets

Taking full responsibility for dry cow management and calving cows

Assist in general stock and dairy duties as required (scraping, bedding and feeding) - must have experience of TMR feeding, telehandler use etc

Keeping the farm tidy and safe to operate

The successful candidate must have a full UK driving licence and proof of the right to work in the UK.
