Description

We are a family run business and one of the most experienced Milking Machine Companies in the UK.

Due to continued expansion, we are looking for an Automation Installation Technician to join our experienced team.

We offer a unique range of reliable environmentally friendly and efficient milking equipment for the modern dairy farmer.

This full time role is to service, install and maintain milking machines including rotary and herringbone parlours.

 

The Role

This unique and varied role will see you involved in all areas of service to our clients, including but, not limited too;


  • Installation of electrical, mechanical & automation equipment; This will mainly be the installation of automated monitoring equipment of dairy herds behaviour (fertility, environment, health & milk production)

  • Replace, repair and/or remove components in plant and equipment and ensure its return to operational condition

  • Sourcing replacement parts, and fabricating any components when required

  • Optimise hardware and software for automation systems

  • Visiting farms to perform set-up and service of new and existing milking equipment

  • Inspecting, analysing, and troubleshooting dairy systems and equipment

  • Running diagnostic tests and interpreting results to make effective recommendations

  • Trouble shoot issues

  • Writing up reports, job sheets and preventative maintenance plans

  • Negotiating with suppliers and farmer clients, communicating the benefits of milking equipment relevant to their operations

  • Providing time and material cost estimates before starting a job

  • Keeping up to date of advancements in the field and attending training as required

  • Maintain a clean and organised workspace

  • Provide excellent customer service and communication, advising on the proper use, operation, and maintenance of dairy equipment

  • Notification of any H&S issues, observations or accidents in line with company procedures

Once inducted the individual would be expected to work out of hours on a rota basis. An extra allowance is in place irrespective of any call outs, while overtime is paid if call out is necessary.

 

About You

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with good general maintenance skills, a self starter with a positive attitude and a good degree of common sense. Due to the nature of the industry, you will need to have experience in a manual and physical role and a logical approach to problem solving.

This position is demanding and reactive and will require you to regularly fulfil time-critical tasks, you therefore need to be comfortable working in a busy, fast paced environment, with regular travel and often working outside sociable hours.

You must also be comfortable working on farms / in a farming environment, where you will have regular interaction with Farmers, farm workers, livestock, heavy machinery and mud!

 

Skills and Experience

Whilst all relevant and technical training will be provided, you should possess the below as stipulated.

Essential:


  • Proficiency with power tools and hand tools

  • Previous experience as an Automation engineer, fitter or similar role

  • Able to multitask, work under pressure and to deadlines

  • Diagnose faults quickly and efficiently

  • Excellent IT skills

  • A driving licence is necessary as a vehicle will be provided upon training completion

Desirable:


  • Ability to test PCBs , understand circuits and computer networks

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Previous experience in agricultural environments, particularly experience in a dairy-related industry
