Job for Second in command to Head Herdsman - Somerset
Dairy
UK
BA4
South West
Description

A great opportunity for a person to work as second in command to our head herdsman in Somerset. The job will involve milking 450 cows on a 60-point rotary system twice a day. The candidate will need a good understanding of herd management and grass management within a grazing system. We work on a 12-week block calving system from July to October so calf rearing experience is essential.

It would be desirable if there was a second person to calf rear throughout the summer and to be available for relief milking throughout the year.

A 3 bedroom bungalow with central heating and a log burner is provided which is a 2 minute walk from the dairy.

The village has a busy friendly pub, is situated a 7 minute drive from Castle Cary and 15 minute drive from Shepton Mallet.

Wage from £26,000 to £30,000 depending on experience.
