Due to career progression within our expanding dairying business we are looking for a full time herdsperson/2iC to work alongside our herd manager.
We currently managea predominately grass based dairy farm, milking 370 Spring calving cows across 270 acres in South Leicestershire. The herd is operated as a flying-herd to maximise the available grazing. Our high quality milk is sold locally to a leading Stilton manufacturer. The successful applicant will be required to work as part of a settled, positive, friendly team with support from longstanding relief milkers and the owner. The farm has had considerable investment in recent years in infrastructure which include, a NZ style 24/48 herringbone milking parlour with handling facilities, 350 cubicles and straw yards and excellent paddock infrastructure to maximise milk from forage.
The role involves working closely with the herd manager to achieve specific targets and maintain excellent results. Within this varied and stimulating role tasks will include, sharing the milkings with the team and been proactive in cow health throughout the year alongside seasonal jobs including calving, calf rearing, heat detection, grassland management, basic tractor driving which includes feeding, scraping and bedding.
What we are looking for
Ideally you will have some experience of working on a busy dairy farm and tractor experience will be beneficial. Desirable skills would be experience of foot trimming and AI, although training can be provided for the right person.
Most importantly you will have a passion for cows, be flexible, friendly and have a good alarm clock!
