270 ha mixed farm seeks herdsperson to join a small family run team.
We milk 100 pedigree British Friesian cows, calving all year round and supplying milk to a local cheese maker. All calves are reared on as either dairy replacements or sold as heavy stores at approx 24 months old. The herd is NMR recorded and milked through a 10/10 herringbone parlour twice a day. Cubicle housed during winter with self feed grass silage and maize silage fed via feeder wagon. Dairy cake fed according to yield in parlour. The herd grazes extensively throughout the spring/summer/autumn months.
Candidates should ideally have calving, foot trimming and general herd health experience, including the ability to prescribe and use medicines responsibly and manage milk hygiene. They would also be responsible for day to day record keeping.
We also have approx 140 ha of arable cropping comprising barley, wheat, beans and some areas of countryside stewardship. Virtually all field work is carried out using own staff and equipment. Applicants role could be varied according to ability, to ideally include assisting with silage/hay making and straw harvest, along with fencing and general stock tasks. Experience operating tractors, telehandlers and some machinery would therefore be an advantage.
Holiday and regular time off relief to be provided by existing farm staff.
Flexible start date and terms could be tailored to the successful applicant.
