Included supervising two members of staff, welding and fabrication of equipment required for herb growing and other agricultural uses. Self Employed Contracting

August 2022 May 2024

I undertook various contracts with local farms to assist in completing harvest, cultivating, sumo work, hedge cutting and lugging potatoes.

As well as the arable work I was the relief lead tractor operator on a dairy farm with a herd of 1500 milking and 2000 acres grassland. This was during a period when the full time member of staff was off sick due to a cancer diagnosis. Duties here involved feeding silage, flat rolling, umbilical slurry operations and operating a JCB for all related tasks.

Swinnertons Contracting

January 2023 January 2024

During my time at Swinnertons Contracting I undertook a wide variety of jobs including; umbilical slurry spreading, muck spreading, primary and secondary cultivations, silage carting, round baling, bale wrapping, many hours of JCB ( telehandler and loading shovel) work including straw stacking, clearing sheds, loading bulk materials and more. My main task whilst at this company was the lead tanker driver operating a 4500 gallon tanker with a 12 meter trailing shoe covering approximately 6000 acres in a season. I was also responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of my machines. Another of my responsibilities was corresponding with customers to make sure their needs and expectations were met, this required excellent communication skills.

During the winter months I was part of the team in the workshop making sure everything was ready for the upcoming seasons.

When additional self employed drivers come to help out during busy times it was often down to myself to organise the teams tasks and make sure everything was running smoothly.

Bristol Ground School

January 2024 -May 2024

I left the contracting job to pursue my education and to further my flying license credentials, unfortunately this has come to end with my decision to take this no further and concentrate on my agricultural career.

John Brown, Manor Farm, Cambridge

May 2024 September 2024

I undertook a fixed term self employed contract before traveling to New Zealand. This role involved grain store management, primary and secondary cultivations, mole ploughing, digger work, combine servicing and maintenance.

I worked independently and along side the owner of the farm to complete the above tasks competently and to an excellent standard.

John Austin Contracting, Te Awamutu, New Zealand

September 2024 present

This was a new challenge for a season to gain further experience with extreme terrain and different styles of agriculture. So far in this role I have mainly had the tasks of buckraking and drilling. I have also been subsoiling, fertiliser/lime spreading, two and 4 rotor raking for the forage teams.

I have thoroughly enjoyed working within a large team in a very different environment and I feel this has given me further valuable experience to enable me to move to a more senior role in agriculture.
