Farming background

2019-2020 Assistant Voluntary Ranger at National Trust

On Tuesdays, I worked at Gibside National Trust property as an Assistant Voluntary Ranger. This was a very physical role that

involves working outdoors in all weathers. The jobs that I completed whilst at work ranged from clearing and disposing of

invasive species to maintaining paths, hedges or fences. Maintenance and repair of play-park equipment has also been a

significant part of the role. This experience helps widen my knowledge and interest of both native and invasive flora and

fauna, and what each needs to thrive in a certain area. Teamwork is a vital part of this job, and is one that I have managed to

put to use.

June 2019-February 2020, Late 2020-March 2022 Production Assisstant for a mushroom producer.

Working as part of a production team, I would create the growth mixture required for the cultivating of mushrooms; pack and

carry the bags of mixture, with processing and modification throughout the growth process; harvest mushrooms; and pack and

post the completed grow-your-own kits to the buyers. In addition to these roles, there would be periodic cleaning and

sterilisation of equipment and spaces to prevent cross contamination that would hamper or kill growth. I received full COSHH

training as part of this job in order to be able to clean safely and properly.
