Farming background

September 2015 September 2021

In 2015 I set up my own dairy unit and milked British Fresian cows, on a Medina/Watsons contract.

All calves were kept, some as dairy replacements, and others reared and sold as stores at approx. 12 months.

2009 2015

When we moved to our current farm, I had a beef suckler herd of 45, Simmential cross cows. Calved in March/April and youngstock were sold at yearlings the following April.

1995 2009

Worked alongside my father, running his beef suckler herd of 120 Simmential cross cows.

Calved in March/April and youngstock were sold at yearlings the following April.

1994 1995

Worked at an 1100 acre arable and sheep farm. Where I looked after the 100 beef cows, these were fed on a straw and cereal ration and arable tractor work.

I have always spent many years relief milking on many dairy farms on the Island, which has involved milking, general farm duties, rearing calves and general tractor work.
