Other livestock experience

I have had my own sheep for about 10 years. I stared with a few Texel cade lambs and after about a year I purchased about 40 Poll Dorset ewes and a ram and built the flock up to 100 ewes.

I shepherded these on my own with occasional help when needed, such as rounding them up as I didnt have a working dog at that point. The first year lambing I had probably every problem you could imagine from misrepresented lambs, mis-mothering, bad mothers a mother with no milk and a prolapse so it was a baptism of fire but I loved it, and future lambing went much better but still with the odd problem and this has given my experience dealing with most situations and meant is was approached to take on my current position.

I have attended many course run by our vet and am a member of the flock management club.

I am currently in charge of 350 ewes, 20 pigs 60 alpacas and some goats.

I have worked with beef cattle but not for some time

July 2017 - November 2021 Alpaca Trekking

I have set up and am running a successful alpaca trekking business. This includes managing the bookings, maintaining the web site, meeting, and greeting customers, escorting the customers on the walk and ensuring that they are completely satisfied with their experience. I have also taken the alpacas to Nursing homes and even to peoples weddings.

I have attended many course run by our vet and am a member of the flock management club.

2008 2019 Equestivan Horsebox company

I set up and ran a limited company whose objective was to build quality affordable horseboxes. Whilst running this I also kept my sheep and pigs. My duties included:

•Purchasing materials and stock

•Dealing with accounts up to year end

•Hiring of staff

•Advertising

•Designed and build website

•Dealing with customers face to face and over the phone

•Running social media campaigns

•Helping in the workshop when needed

Before this, my career and has been mainly office based including working for a nationwide bankas a lending officer and a phone companyas a Credit Controller. When I left school, I worked with horses where I had a position on a farm that also had cattle. I found myself more drawn to the cattle and spent most of the time working with the Limousin cows and bulls, helping with calving, embryo transfer and their day to day care.

I am hard working, committed, conscientious and have a great sense of humour. I thrive as part of team but equally can work independently. I enjoy a challenge.

I consider farming a way of life not just a job.
