Farming background

Currently I work

Currently looking after variety of livestock and providing general infrastructure maintenance and repairs on a mixed farm. Carry out most work independently but also happy to work with others.

Aug 2021 - Nov 2022 Partner and General Construction, West Sussex

Working to bring garden designs to life, I carry out timber construction of retaining walls and garden furniture. I assist with laying patios and building garden offices and other outdoor spaces. My work keeps me physically robust and fit.

Oct 2011 - Sept 2021 Sub Unit Logistic Support, 32 Regiment Royal Artillery

My role was to ensure that soldiers in my sub unit had access to well-maintained equipment, weapons, and vehicles required for effective training and deployment to operational theatres if required. In addition, I made sure that health and safety regulations were followed in the workplace and fire safety checks were done and recorded correctly. The nature of the job meant that plans could change on a moments notice, making adaptability and creative problem solving a vital attribute to success.

Key responsibilities

Manage the storage of military kit and equipment in a safe and orderly manner, ensuring the effectiveness of teams when they are expected to carry out taskings

Schedule safety inspections, maintenance and repair of equipment using relevant IT programs

Manage teams to complete both routine and ad hoc tasks to a high standard

Ensure fire safety regulations are followed and teams are educated on fire safety

Manage the safe storage and use of items that fall under COSHH

Issue vehicles or equipment for temporary use, keeping an accurate record of usage and ensuring work is authorised by policy

Providing training and advice on safe usage and care for equipment in order to prolong equipment life

Key achievements/projects

Moving between departments to cover for positions above my current role has allowed me to stretch my comfort zone and develop leadership and management skills further. I have twice had to learn new roles in very time pressurised circumstances, which gave me the opportunity to prove myself by delivering a service to a high standard against the odds.

Taking charge of a fleet of over a dozen vehicles, I was able to push through servicing and maintenance taskings ahead of schedule to facilitate important training that was at risk of failure if the fleet was not rapidly returned to full capacity. I was presented with an award by my Commanding Officer for this achievement and promoted soon after.

Sep 2010 Sep 2011 Marketing Executive, Media Group, West Sussex

Assisted the marketing manager by producing website content for clients and building networks between complementary businesses via their respective websites.

Oct 2009 Aug 2010 Landscaper, West Sussex

I enjoyed this job and was able to develop my building and construction skills in a great company. I gained experience building fencing, decking and retaining walls.

Nov 2007 Nov 2008 English Tutor, South Korea

Spending a year in South Korea tutoring students of various ages was a great life experience and taught me how to be self-reliant and to adapt to challenging situations in an environment where language and cultural differences were significant obstacles.
