Hi, I'm Alex. I've been working on a dairy farm (700 cows) in Narberth since September, I love milking and working with cows. Unfortunately, my boss's daughter and her fiance are moving back home to take over the farm and will be taking over my role.

•Awarded the Evan Morgan scholarship and an Unconditional offer to study at university after completing an entrance examination.
•Graduating with an Upper Second-Class Honours (2:1) along with a First-Class Honours dissertation titled Measuring dairy cow behaviour using tail-mounted accelerometers for future use in the prediction of parturition.
•Researched and wrote 8,000 word dissertation on parturition in dairy cows, analysing data with the use of tail mounted accelerometers by using IT systems such as SPSS and Excel in order to determine whether the prediction of parturition can be determined by dairy cow behaviour.
•Operated MS software over 4 years including Excel during the farm business management module by constructing fully detailed farm business budgets, including financial statements, and preparing an investment plan, including appraisal and selection of appropriate finance.
•Established communication skills whilst presenting an assessed livestock presentation on fertility in dairy cows in front of 30 science undergraduates and academic staff outlining the effects of uterus size on fertility in dairy cows, answering questions on statistical analysis and SAS software and reporting on the variability in uterine size in primiparous and multiparous dairy cows
•Acquired practical and technical skills whilst analysing forages and interpreting feed analysis reports required to formulate rations for cattle.

ACTIVITIES •I am a keen horse rider of 18 years; I ride with the Ystrad Taf Fechan Hunt. •Active member of the National Federation of Young Farmers since 2013; enjoyed activities including Stock Judging. •Played for the school netball team and captained the hockey team, developed team management skills, and improved working as a team. •Started the first womens rugby team in my local town and continued to play for the Aberystwyth university team. Managing Calf Rearing Unit and Milking | New Zealand - 2017 2018
Twice a day milking of a grass based 500-cow dairy herd, alongside managing the calf rearing unit for two seasons in New Zealand.
Role included milking, wash down, fencing and maintenance, moving cows on grass rotation, calving, calf rearing and making decisions on the calving unit such as feeding, grouping and replacements.

Independently providing general care for 500 ewes and assisting lambing during night shifts whilst successfully balancing work alongside academic commitments. Provided feed, water, and correct nutrition to both ewes and lambs.
