Farming background

2017-Present. Second Herdsman of 300 cow dairy farm, AYR calving with followers and beef. My current role involves milking, testing and administration of colostrum, dry cow management, general yard duties, some foot trimming and full responsibility for herd heat detection, a.i and farm fertility. 2015-2017. Genus r.m.s technician. After 6 weeks of heat detection and a.i training at farms all over the country my role varied from the management of fertility on 1200 cow units to a.i calls to much smaller farms giving me the opportunity to appreciate many different dairy farm techniques and ideas. 2014-2015 - Youngstock worker on a autumn block calving unit. After growing up on my Parents dairy farm till it was sold in 2001 this was my first step back into dairy farming. My role involved calving cows, calf rearing and genaral youngstock duties.
