Lambing assistant
March 2020- April 2021
During my time here I worked individually, I swept out and disinfected pens after each ewe was turned out.I had to decide which lambs I thought were ready to be turned out and which lambs and ewes would need more attention.I have experience bottle and tube feeding lambs.I performed health checks on both the lambs and ewes and administer medication where needed. I have also castrated and tailed lambs and tagging, injecting and clipping.
I have performed health checks of both tups and ewes pre-mating season to ensure they were fit enough for breeding.

When I worked on the estate I was responsible for maintaining the gardens. This involved grass cutting and strimming. The estate also ran a flock of 450 sheep, I assisted with dosing, vaccinating, feeding and the process of scanning.I worked within a small team and sometimes individually depending on the task in hand.
College
Ponteland, Northumberland
September 2019-July 2020
At college, I gained experience working with beef cattle. At the college they ran a single suckler herd of around 70 head of beef cattle which the majority were Aberdeen Angus. I learned to administer boluses, inject and dose cattle and work out correct dosages to apply.I also learned how to condition score stock.
3 month placement on dairy farm
During my placement I was responsible for re-bedding the cows. For this I would scrape out all of the cubicles and then replace with fresh sawdust. I would milk the cows, making sure to clean the udders properly, hand strip to let the milk down and then apply the clusters.
Heddon on the wall
I was doing weekly morning milks and the occasional afternoon shift. On average there are usually around 700 cows milked as a team of 3/4. If the cows have been kept in over night theyre sprayed then cleaned and then put on to milk.
October 2022-current
Farm, Bywell Stocksfield.
I am mainly responsible for the rearing of the calves. The calves are bedded 3 times per week and are fed twice daily, using a 10 teat feeder. The calves are kept in pens of 10. There is a split block calving system in place and have a current milking herd of approximately 500. I have gained a lot of experience calving during my time here.
I have also had the opportunity to gain experience in setting up grazing for the milking herd so I have a vast amount of knowledge with using reels for semi permanent electric fencing. Also learning how to carry out any necessary repairs of the fence lines.
