My biggest passion is for my own Holstein business run in Maidstone, ****** Holsteins, where I have bought elite pedigree embryos from all over the world and have shown and sold offspring from them. These agricultural shows are how I like to spend my holidays. My hobbies also include being outdoors, walking my two dogs in the countryside

Dairy Herd Health Specialist/Maternity Manager
Take a lead role in day to day health management of 1900 cow dairy and responsible for the maternity unit. My tasks include:
-Finding and treating sick cows
-Recording antibiotic usage
-Ensuring safe delivery of calves
-Colostrum testing and feeding
-Lead and train a small team of people
-On call for out of hours calvings and health issues
-Manage fertility protocols
-Manage the drying off process with 100% no antibiotics used

-Heat detection and AIing cows and young stock
-Close eye on calving cows and tubing first colostrum feed for efficient speed.
-Attention to detail with cow health, milk quality and cow welfare.

-Communicating with farm staff

Herd Manager
With these pedigree Holstein dairy cows, I play a pivotal role in all aspects of the health and welfare of the herd so that maximum production can be achieved. Working 12-hour days, 6 days a week my tasks include:
-Milking 300 cows in 16:32 Herringbone parlour, twice a day, 6 days a week
-Identifying cows in oestrus
-Herd average of 10,500L
-Organising staff rotas, cover for holidays
- Solely responsible for mating choices and breeding goals
-Aiding calving cows and care of dam and calf post parturition
-Solely responsible for ordering feed and medication
-Fully responsible for Farm Assurance
-Maintaining accurate paperwork for all aspects of the farm e.g. deliveries, deadstock, milk recording
-Identifying ailments and administering drugs accordingly
-Arranging with slurry contractors
- Working with vets and nutritionists to make decisions to move the herd forward.
