I have driven a New Holland T7, basic driving and some turning hay. Also moving bales onto a flat bed trailer using the telehandler, putting feed bales into the cattle shed, stacking bales in the field. Driving the sheep trailer with tractor. I also regularly tow with my car but currently up at a combined limit of 3.5 tonnes until I can get a trailer test date which has been delayed due to covid.

Other livestock experience

Mixed Farm of 800 breeding ewes and 70 Sussex Cattle and around 500 acres of arable. I undertook mainly shepherding duties but also calving and a small amount of tractor driving. I can independently carry out grazing rotation, strip grazing, vaccinating, worming, tagging, lambing, scanning, foot trimming, shearing, selecting replacements, weighing.

Duties that I have undertaken and feel competent:

Lambing- all presentations, multiple lambs, difficult presentations, dissections if required, wet fostering, adopter fostering, injecting, latching on, turning out.

Lambs- Castrating, tail docking, raising orphan lambs, tagging, weighing, marking up, treatment of watery mouth, joint ill etc. Use of spectam, Betamox and penicillin-based antibiotics.

Sheep welfare- Hep-B vac, worming, tagging, drenching, pour on for fly strike, foot trimming, Shearing (Blue badge certificate), treatment of magnesium deficiency, injecting, fleck sampling.

communicating with APHA and completing sheep paperwork, I currently have my own flock of Shetland sheep that I complete all sheep husbandry for.

Use of computer technologies to monitor ewes and lambs. Teaching and supervising vet students during the lambing period including allocating workload appropriate to skill level and strengths. Teaching skills such as worming and tagging. Identifying appropriate fields and for needs of the sheep including amount of grass available and needs of the flock. Loading and turning out ewes and lambs from the lambing shed. Strip grazing on forage crops and the use of electric fencing.

calving of 80 Sussex cows, including using the calving jack and helping calves to latch on, milking cows to bottle feed calves, moving cattle to grazing and into the barns etc, castrating and ear tagging calves, assisting with hoof trimming and tubing calves.

I do not currently have a working dog as I do not have enough work for one however I would purchase a dog for the right job.

Other- Driving quad bike on difficult terrain also with trailer, Tractor driving (small amount), Driving land rover/off road driving, Telehandler driving (no ticket at present), Fox trapping/shooting, pest shooting (crows, jackdaws, squirrels etc), Magpie trapping. I can tow up a combined weight of 3.5 tons on current driving license.

Raising of day old pheasants and ducks and released into the pheasant pen. Care of a small flock of chickens day to day and hatching egg from broody hens. Also helping to raise a flock of turkeys for Christmas.

Private smallholding (additional help when other staff are off and during busy periods during 2020) - Caring for Turkeys, laying and meat hens. small flock of sheep and 40 Sussex cattle.

Independent contracting shearing during 2021 of mainly small flocks and small holders, also occasional shepherding throughout the year for foot trimming and worming etc. I also offer a consultancy service to help select replacements and flock management mainly for smallholders.

I run my own flock of Shetland sheep with around 20 breeding ewes.
