Farming background

Currently working as a General Farm Worker no day is the same. I relief milk 330+ cows in a

Westfalia swing over parlour 4 times a week where I maintain high standards in the parlour and split

the rest of my time between yard work, tractor driving and caring for the cows.

My tractor work is dependent on the time of year but will vary between silage, tedding, slurry

tanking and topping etc during the summer. Winter is slightly different due to the farm running an

autumn block calving system so when not calving, milking or doing night checks I would be scraping

up, feeding and caring for the youngstock. I enjoyed working with the team at Fernhill Farm but

would like to return to more of a milking dominant role. 2015 - To 2020

350+ mixed dairy herd. Herdsman role, second to Farm Manager. Milking twice daily in 20/40 swing over Westfalia parlour. Spring block calving, winter housing and summer grazing. In charge of grazing management, veterinary care, foot trimming and general care of the herd including bulling heifers. Also complete rolling, harrowing, topping and fencing.

2006-2015

200 milking dairy herd plus all following youngstock. Winter housing and summer grazing Autumn block calving. All harvest work, silage work, cultivation and drilling.
