Attending Harper Forum talks. First team tennis in sixth form, doubles and singles. Keen hockey player for the Blandford Flies hockey club. Member of the Harper Adams Football Club. Grade 5 double bass and grade 5 music theory. Help out with the shoot on the home farm, feeding pheasants and beating. Scuba diving, have got my SSI open water diving certificate. Enjoy exploring new places and taking on new challenges, either on my own or with friends. Spent four months travelling around Australia and New Zealand inbetween working there.

Farming background

2000ha arable farm in West Berkshire, summer 2020 - present.

•Duties included: Carting grain/straw, relief combine driving, running the grain drier, cultivations, digger work, rolling, workshop jobs, loading grain/straw/hay lorries, cattle work, spray mixer bowser, avadexing/slug pelleting.

2500ha cereal and root crop farm in Nottinghamshire:

Placement student (July 2018 September 2019)

Part of the 12-man workforce covering a large range of work.

•Main roles included: irrigating, rolling, slug pelleting, avadexing, carting (corn, beet and root crops), construction work, muckspreading and then operated an Agrifac self-propelled sprayer during the spring spraying a range of both veg and cereal crops and then a Claas Lexion 760tt combine during the summer.

•Responsibility during harvest as was left in charge of the harvest team at times.

•Spent time running the grader during onion and carrot harvesting.

Summer student Arable farm in Dorset (2016 and 2017)

•Worked as part of an eight-man harvest team, mainly carting on Fendt tractors, but also cultivating, rolling, slug pelleting and stubble raking, all using Trimble RTK guidance. Loaded grain lorries dealing with all associated paperwork and the weighbridge.

4000ha broad acre farm in Western Australia:

Harvest (October 2015 January 2016)

•Long hours throughout harvest on a chaser bin. Part of a 10-man team, in a very isolated location. Gained some combine driving experience. Also undertook stubble mulching, lime spreading and operated a 20-ton loading shovel.

•Seeding (April 2016 June 2016)

•12hr shifts (3pm 3am) on a 60ft air seeder, having to undertake repairs to the air seeder, so had a large amount of responsibility. Also spread urea fertiliser on all the crops once they were established. All machines were equipped with John Deere RTK Greenstar.

Mixed family farm in Dorset, farming 750ha

Two harvests as full-time employee (2014 and 2015)

•Main job was grain-cart, but also undertaking bale hauling and straw tedding, and helping out with the 60 head Angus suckler herd with tasks such as AI and worming, and general tasks associated with the flock of breading ewes. Plus rolling crops after drilling and grassland. Learnt how to operate the John Deere combine.

All school/university holidays since the age of 13 (2009-Present)

•Working on the family farm doing farm jobs, helping out with the suckler herd and carrying out groundwork on an excavator. Assisted with the log business, splitting and processing timber into logs for sale. Experienced putting up livestock fencing, both permanent and temporary.
