Other livestock experience

I managed a small herd of Dexer cattle which were used to graze wildlife conservation ground. While I was in agricultural college I gained experience in many aspects of farming. These included all aspects of animal husbandry. I worked with sheep, learning to foot trim, shear, dagging and administering medications. I also worked with beef and dairy cattle, this involved general welfare, medicating, disbudding, milking, calving and ear tagging. I really enjoyed my time working with both sheep and cattle and it solidified my passion for working in agriculture.

For just under 3 years I worked as gfw on a dairy farm in Wiltshire. My job including milking, young stock handling and general farm work.

Since the beginning of October 2021 I have been working on a farm estate in Dorset. I have been looking after roughly 180 suckler herd. During the summer they are put out to pasture, they are regularly rotated to make sure they have enough grazing and top up with round bales if necessary. Over winter and during calving they are in sheds, cleaned out twice a week, I can administer any medication needed. I also have experience rearing calves.

Farming background

From 2006 to 2011 I worked as a Gamekeeper in Collingbourne Kingston whilst attending agricultural college. I performed many tasks on this job including tractor driving, pest control, running high profile shoot days, rearing pheasants and partridges and general estate management. I picked up many skills whilst carrying out these tasks like topping cover crops and grassland, chain harrowing, rolling and trailer driving. I have spent many years helping friends and family on their small shoots and farms, right from rearing and hatching through to land management, pest control and deer management. I hold a full, clean UK driving license. I have also worked as a labourer in the building industry, a landscape gardener and a security dog handler/close protection security officer so I have a wide range of skills. From November 2018 to October 2021 I worked on a dairy farm under an m&s contract looking after 360 milking cows plus 1500 cattle, rearing our own replacements as well as general farm duties.

Since early October 2021 I have been working on a farm estate in Dorset. I have been looking after roughly 180 suckler herd, taking care of their day to day needs as well as general tractor work and estate work such as maintenance, fencing, forestry work, river keeping and harvesting in season.
