Growing up in Staffordshire, in a predominantly livestock focused area, I gained extensive experience working with livestock (mainly dairy cattle), but quickly came to realise that my true passion lies within the arable sector.
During my time working on various dairy farms I was responsible for the day to day running of the farms along side the farmer including; all associated tractor work i.e. scraping, bedding, feeding TMR, mucking out, muck/slurry spreading, rolling, harrowing etc. Calf rearing, milking, handling of cattle (tb testing etc.) application of vet meds, record keeping.
I completed my first arable harvest in 2016 on a 4500 acre farm which consisted of grain carting and store work/preparation. I went on to do 3 harvests at the same 7000 acre estate in Wiltshire in 2017/18/21, consisting of grain carting, sub soiling, slug pelleting, Cambridge rolling, cultivating with 8m carrier, extensive loader including grain handling, loading lorries, bale carting etc.
I took on a permanent position as a tractor driver on a 4000 acre mixed farm in 2019, my responsibilities including; slurry tanking (24m spread), ploughing for the 650ac. of maize grown, extensive loader work (both grain and livestock), TMR feeding for the 850 milking cows along with all other general estate duties. I moved on from here to gain more experience after 2 years.
I worked for a busy crop spraying contractor in the spring of 2021 where I was responsible for spraying with 24m self propelled sprayer, fertiliser spreading, slug pelleting, drilling, cultivations.
I worked at an estate in Hampshire in 2022 with the main focus of my work being fertiliser spreading, using a 24m solid fert boom spreader, and spraying with a 24m self propelled sprayer, along with all other general estate duties.
After working for a contractor, spreading digestate in early 2023, I spent the summer and autumn working on an estate in Bedfordshire, where my main duties consisted of hay making during the summer and spraying throughout the autumn.
I spent the majority of 2024 working as a primary sprayer operator for an estate in Wiltshire where I was responsible for all pesticide and liquid fertiliser applications, undertaking ploughing and cultivations alongside. This position came to an end due to changes within the business which lead to redundancy.
