Telehandler/Tractor Skills - Basic skills including most aspects of livestock husbandry.
Goat dairy management- For the last two years I have worked managing a dairy goat herd of 1000 goats with 500 milking twice daily. I was solely responsible for all day to day running of the unit. Including parlour/milk quality management, goat herd health and all relevant paperwork and records. Also included in my role was all aspects of breeding and kidding then going on to rear all replacement nannies. During my time on the unit I completely modernised the record keeping on the farm from paper to an EID tagging system. Sheep/Lambing - I have previously undertaken 3 years work on commercial sheep farms with herds of 500-1500. I have experience in most routine sheep work including herd health and record keeping. I am a confident and experienced lamber who has plenty of experience working independently for extended periods of time. I have reared many orphan lambs with quick and keen eye for any problems. Dairy/Beef - I have 2 years previous experience working with both dairy and beef cattle. I have milked both independently and within a team. I also have experience working with youngstock and helping to rear heifer calves as replacements. I would like to further my knowledge and skills in the cow dairy industry and feel I have many transferable skills from my time managing a dairy goat unit.
