Farming background

Having grown up working/helping on a large beef/arable farm in the hampshire countryside, i left there for 2 years to study, returning for another 9 years. On the farm i was employed to do all jobs associated with a large beef arable farm, eg; Hay/Haylage, silage, fencing, hedge cutting, health and welfare of the cattle, ploughing, drilling, topping, etc etc... I was made redundant due to the health of the owner deteriorating

Herd manager: Main responsibilities: Herd health and welfare of 450 pedigree Holstein cows and calves, All record keeping using bcms, Holstein UK and NMR, Assisting difficult calvings, Managing all herd Nutritional and dietary requirements, Organising/Liaising vet visits and Tb tests, Feeding and bedding of animals, Maintaining state of the art DeLaval robotic milkers, Liaising with contractors and workers on the farm. I currently work part time on a 280 cow autumn calving organic herd, milking, foot trimming and all other associated tasks with running a dairy herd.

I returned to hands on dairy farming Managing a 300 cow organic Holstein Friesian herd which I left due to dispersal of the herd.

I am currently managing 2 organic estates combined area of 4000 acres which has 2 dairy, 800 beef animals finishing 400 a year through our own business and selling surplus on, all grassland management, grazing and cultivation work, arable but all is required for the cattle.
