Farming background

Having grown up working/helping on a large beef/arable farm in the hampshire countryside, i left there for 2 years to study for an NQV level 2 in Mechanical Engineering before returning for another 9 years. On the farm i was employed to do all jobs associated with a large beef arable farm, eg; Hay/Haylage, silage, fencing, hedge cutting, health and welfare of the cattle, ploughing, drilling, topping, etc etc... I left there due to the health of the owner deteriorating meaning my ex partner and I took a job to run a thorough bred stud farm on the Oxfordshire/Buckinghamshire border for 2 years, whilst there i was responsible for the Management and day to day running of the farm, which included a 800 cow herd and 350 ewes. I only left there as the main business of the estate was the stud so i could not expand, I left this job to pursue my passion which is with cattle with a job opportunity to manage a state of the art dairy unit. Herd manager: Main responsibilities: Herd health and welfare of 450 pedigree Holstein cows and calves, All record keeping using bcms, Holstein UK and NMR, Assisting difficult calvings, Managing all herd Nutritional and dietary requirements, Organising/Liaising vet visits and Tb tests, Feeding and bedding of animals, Maintaining state of the art DeLaval robotic milkers, Liaising with contractors and workers on the farm. I currently work part time on a 280 cow autumn calving organic herd, milking, foot trimming and all other associated tasks with running a dairy herd alongside my other job as Customer Account Manager for NMR.

With the changes in my current job I am wanting to get back in to hands on dairy farming.
