Farming background

I went over to New Zealand on a working holiday visa in 2011 and started out as a farm hand.I was part of a team Milking 850 cows twice daily through a 50 bale rotary. My other duties included herding cattle, setting up breaks, dusting the paddocks and other general farm duties. I then followed my partner to Southland and joined a self contained farm milking 400 cows twice daily through a 32 a side hb. I progressed up to Assistant Herd Manager running the shed and managing one farm hand. I have some tractor experience but no experience with AI . I do however have some experience treating" down cows" and treating cows with mastitis. On arriving back in the UK I moved to Penzance where I worked as an assistant herdsman solo milking 400 cows twice daily through a 25/25 hb. The cows were fed on a New Zealand system and fed maize and self fed silage in the winter. My role included solo milking, stock and basic tractor work, mastitis control, moving young stock and setting up breaks. I worked there for 8 months covering for the assistant herdsman whilst he was in NZ on a silage contract. I then moved to a spring calving herd in Bude, then onto Bideford as an Assistant herdsman. I became more of a farm Labourer. I was there for 6.5 years . I have attended a hoof trimming course. If I am being honest, it did not come naturally. I never used it as we had a specific person who did the feet. I can work on my own initiative and very well in a team, working to a high standard. I can do basic tractor work. I am at my most content doing hard graft and working out in the fields getting my hands dirty. Happy doing all the mundane jobs nobody else likes.
