I have been self-employed since 1997 running my own beef suckler herd and flock of Suffolk cross breeding ewes. To supplement my income I have also done contract fencing and pasture maintenance and HGV1 tipper driving for a local grain store. I grew up on a dairy farm, milking Jerseys using a traditional parlour, but when my father switched from dairy to beef I trained as an HGV driver and did that full time until 1994. I then worked at a residential home for adults with learning difficulties, running their small farm and market garden. Following that I moved with my wife to Norfolk to run a small hotel with her parents before returning to farming with my own herd in 1997.
