From a non-farming background, at 16 worked part time on a local dairy farm gaining basic knowledge and experience.
Covid then crippled my ability to find a job in Ag during this middle period, so I took an assistant depot manager role on a Hermes sub Depot. Here I spend a year during Covid supervising parcel quality control, ensuring all items were in good condition and suitable to be delivered to customers. Furthermore, I dealt with round issues sorting routes for drivers, app issues, allocation of extra drops, arrival of wagon unloads and security of all items during this period.
18-20) I worked 2 years on a 270 cow dairy farm near Preston. I moved 3 hours away for a challenge adding to my knowledge and becoming a pivotal part of the team. I milked 3 times a day carrying out regular night milkings. I was was involved in calf and young stock rearing, feeding, bedding, making a feed mix with a sheer grab and bucket. Bedding and yard every other morning.
The last year I wanted a new dairy experience in organic, a this farm in Doncaster Ive been able to learn and understand key preventive measures and protocols to avoid illness and issues with stock health. Here Ive learned new methods of feeding calves on yogurt as well as finding new ways to treat cow health issues and illness without the use of antibiotics.
A different style of farming but interesting non the less.
