Veterinary Medicine student on an extended course break until September of 2026 due to personal issues. I am inexperienced in areas but have a solid understanding of what is required to work on a farm from previous work experience and will be the most hard working and dedicated person you could hire

Other equipment experience

I have very limited experience operating equipment with my experience mostly revolving around animal husbandry. I would be dedicated to learning, however, and be happy taking any training needed in order to be more useful to your needs on the farm. I do have some experience operating a post driver from one of my work experience placements where I helped with fencing.

Other livestock experience

I have completed work experience placements including

Lambing over two seasons at separate farms where I was expected to work both in a team and independently including night lambing. By the end of each placement I had gained valuable experience and left feeling confident in performing all duties associated with indoor lambing. I was also involved with helping with the calving of a couple cows while on one of my placements.

Sheep shearing placement where I spent the majority of my time as a wool packer but was also involved with worming, fencing and shepherding over the course of the placement and following the placement I completed a 2 day course to get my blue seal shearing certificate. I would be happy to further my skills in this area and get more experience.

Pig farm placement where I spent two weeks on a commercial rearing pig farm that operated on a three-week farrowing- weaning cycle. During my time at the farm, I was involved in all aspects of their operation including the movement of sows and weaned piglets, operation of the automatic milk feeders, feeding of the weaned pigs, tail docking and teeth clipping and cleaning of the pens

Dairy placements at two separate farms with one operating a herringbone milking parlour and the other operating a rotary milking parlour. My time at the farms included time on both parlour systems and I had the opportunity to practice foot trimming on one of my placements. I was also involved with the other duties on the farm including the feeding of cows at pasture, identifying cows going into oestrus, assisting with the completion of AI and assisting with the treatment of cows including one case of a displaced abomasum.

My biggest strength however is that I have access to my Veterinary medicine lectures and training that I have already undertaken and that although I am limited in my application of this knowledge, I will strive to continue to study even while working and become an effective member of your team.
