I am a very experienced shepherd and stockman. I am very good at producing excellent results with a low input system and maximum profit. I look after my livestock as if they were my own and have gained an excellent reputation which results in having buyers for my breeding stock who come back year after year. For the last 10 years I have been managing a flock of Lleyn ewes with only help from vet students at lambing time. In previous jobs I have looked after and managed both sheep and cattle. I am familiar with both old fashioned and up to date methods of farming. I have worked on an upland and lowland farm and spent 11 years working on an organic farm. I am passionate about sheep/livestock and I am always looking into ways of improving the breeding to produce the best possible carcass I have high standards and I am reliable, hard working and used to working in all weathers. I also have a good sense of humour and Im very energetic!

Other Information

Cover letter Good morning, For the past 10 years I have been running a 300 acre sheep farm in Warwickshire with just vet student help at lambing time. My boss decided to sell the farm and wanted my wife and I to move up to Yorkshire with him which we didnt want to do. I decided to look for another job but only had a limited time frame to get the right job due to the farm sale. Im currently working on a 40 acre small holding in Somerset which is really not enough for me. Im working with just a few sheep, 2 horses and mainly doing maintenance, gardening and dog sitting/walking and I feel my livestock skills are wasted here. My expertise is in sheep and beef. I have a great boss here but the job role is not the right fit for me. I was really excited to see your position advertised, working with sheep again and especially as it is Lincolnshire too which is an area we both like. I currently have x1 semi retired sheepdog. When we move recently I had to re-home my other dog as he had a ligament injury which would have deteriorated had I carried on using him. However, I could source another dog if I were offered the position. I would really appreciate an informal chat to discuss the role and really hope you will consider me Many thanks

Farming background

1984 - 1993 Looked after 40 single suckler cows and 800 sheep. My employer was thinking of selling his farm so decide to move on.

1993- 1997 All the practical work involved in the upkeep of 150 strong suckler herd and 2000 Suffolk ewes. I also had some experience of harvesting cereals and fodder beet. My boss decided to sell most of his animals and move over to just pigs whereas I prefer to work with a variety of animals.

1997-1998 I built up the ewe flock to 640 yearling ewes and 190 tegs, ewes scanned at 191%. I also looked after 36 single suckler cows as well as being involved in general maintenance work and gardening. My employer had little interest in the stock which I found very frustrating and the estate was more focused on the shoots that were held.

1998-2009 I was very privileged to work for the now H.R.H King Charles 111 where I was responsible for the day to management of 90 pedigree Aberdeen Angus Cattle, 450 Lleyns and 50 Hebridean sheep.

2009- 2015 I was responsible for the day to day running of a 2000 acre organic farm looking after 1250 pedigree sheep, 30 south Devon cattle and 70 Devon cross. I did all the record keeping and organised the workload.

2015 - Feb 2025 Currently managing x2 farms within 9 miles of each other with 600 Lleyn ewes and their followers. I am responsible for all the animal husbandry involved with looking after the flock only having help from vet students at lambing time. I am a very experienced lamber, can vaccinate, worm, manage feeding, movement of sheep and management of pasture. I arrange and get sheep ready for contract shearers and I find buyers for sheep or transport to market. I can sort out a water leak and repair fencing. I am a skilled tractor driver and can move round bales around the farm safely. I have in my current role done muck spreading, cleaning out sheds after lambing, used a topper and stacked and carted bales
