Other equipment experience

I have over 30 years experience operating lots of different makes and types of machinery. Most recently I have been operating John Deere tractors including a 9620RX, 8370R and 10 and 30 series. Also a Horsch Leeb PT280 sprayer, Claas Challenger 75E, JCB loaders and Caterpillar 360 diggers(1.5 and 13 tonne). I would class myself as a conscientious operator who can be relied upon to use and maintain multiple different pieces of machinery. I Am currently in the process of obtaining my HGV licence, but I have had previous truck driving experience working in the USA when I did two harvest seasons with Case combines and Peterbilt trucks.

Other livestock experience

Over the years I have mostly worked with dairy and beef cattle and dairy goats. My most recent experience is with beef cattle and dairy goats. The beef cattle were on a simple barley based system and were handy to use up the poorer quality fodder that couldn't go to the goats. The dairy goat herd were milked through a 32 point rotary and were fed on a complete cake and hay based system. Up until the herd were sold 2 years ago I was responsible for making sure we had milking staff in place and I also took care of all of the machinery maintenance on the unit, including the milking parlour.

Farming background

I have been involved with farming since I was at secondary school and I got involved with the school farm. After college I spent a couple of seasons in the USA doing the 2000 mile harvest. In the early 2000's I worked at an Estate in Sussex with their 500 cow dairy herd, getting involved in all aspects of the operation. I then moved on to work on a couple of different mainly arable farms before moving to a farm near Cirencester in 2007. There I was employed as Working Farm Manager helping to take care of the 1950 Acre Estate with 1450 Acres of arable, growing Wheat, Oats, Barley and OSR. Extensive HLS/ELS schemes in place.

I moved on to work at another farm in 2015 doing a similar Working Farm Manager position but as part of a larger contract farming operation that had multiple managers covering different units.

In 2017 my current position became available in Garford. I am Employed as one of the Working Farm Managers. 3000 Acres arable (owned and contract for services). Light industrial units, solar farms, airfields and up until recently 50 head of beef cattle and 500+ dairy goats. We carry out all our own fieldwork operations and machinery servicing and repairs so I have had a good deal of problem solving experience.
