Farming background

Herds person 09/2023 - Current I currently work on a 550 cow dairy in south Devon. This is a spring calving herd of kiwi cross cows, milked through a 48/96 swing over parlour. The cows are grazed 10 months of the year and in on cubicles for the rest of the year. This farm is with an organic Arla milk contract. My main role is milking and foot trimming, I get involved with the AI, vet visits grazing and calving as well. I have defiantly improved my foot trimming knowledge from the lameness on this farm. I also worked for the same business on their Cornwall farm for 4 months at the start, also doing milking, foot trimming and an autumn calving. Herds person 03/2022- 09/2023 - Kent 500 cow dairy farm in Kent. All year round calving herd, on a 18 aside herringbone parlour, which is three times a day milking and high yielding cows. I like to do a bit of everything on the farm such as, AI, Foot trimming, milking, scrapping, calf rearing, vet visits, drying off, calving cows, data entry, cleaning and tidying. Cows are in sand cubicles and graze during the summer months. They supply milk for M&S Herds person 08/2020- 02/2022 - Oxford 650 cows, spring and autumn block calving herd in Oxford. They have a 50 point rotary parlour, twice a day milking on a grass based system. This is the same place I did my middle year placement I really enjoyed it and was pleased to be asked to return in the full time position. Herds person 09/2019- 08/2020 - West Sussex 320 cows, on a 20/20 swing over parlour. Its an organic farm in Lindfield, autumn block calving. They were inside on cubical straw bedding and on self feed silage in the winter time and grazing during the summer months. I mainly did milking, scrapping and grazing management. Twice a day milking their milk was supplied to Arla. I started here part time when I was on my last year of Plumpton college. When Covid hit I was unable to go to college so worked full time.
