Farming background

I am actively looking for a lifestyle change which would involve me leaving my job in the brewing industry and working full time with animals and the land. I have a few years worth of experience doing this but am very keen to learn more. I have my own vehicle, no ties to my local area and believe I would be a valuable asset to any farming operation.

2019-Present - Brewery - Packaging Manager

I currently manage a team of 8 staff members to handle beer from the end of fermentation through to final pack. This includes filtering beer, lab work to ensure quality and packaging into bottle and keg using semi automated machinery. The role is very hands on and requires me to solve a lot of problems creatively I also complete any maintenance required on the equipment. I started out with this company with no experience and over the past 5 years have worked my way to management level I am responsible for health and safety of both staff and consumers.

2017-2019 - Working holiday (NZ)

Started working on dairy farms to fund travel around New Zealand, but ended up working for 18 months across 3 different farms as I really enjoyed the work. I have extensive experience calf rearing. Each year I reared approx. 300 calves from their hour of birth to 6 months when they are let out to graze. This involved tube feeding colostrum, teaching to drink from a teat, spotting likely illness and acting accordingly, cleaning out sheds and administering treatment where required.

I spent the rest of my time on farms moving cows between paddocks, putting up temporary fencing, milking in a rotary shed, cleaning and generally making myself useful. I am fully competent on a 4 wheeler or 2 wheeler. I also spent time on the tractor completing various tasks such as fencing and delivering hay.

2014-2017 - University of Birmingham - BSc Physics

I studied Theoretical Physics at University. From this I gained skills in problem solving, time management and computing. During this time I also played a lot of rugby and spent time in the gym. This combination has lead to me being an excellent team player, with strong initiative and logical reasoning, allowing me to come to a good solution to any problem.
