2016-2024 This is a 1300 acre mixed farm. There are 200 pedigree cows, consisting of Charolais, Angus, and Hereford. I help with calving, and routine day to day husbandry. I also have sole responsibility for 90 pedigree ewes, split between Texel and Charolais, which are Lambeg indoors during the month of February. The husbandry includes, but is not limited to: routine vaccinations, worming, foot trimming, and shearing. I have also prepared pedigree rams for show and sale, along with all of the above.
I carry out routine maintenance, fencing, gateways etc as and when required, and can turn my hand to most things.
I've experience of driving John Deere tractors, JCB Telehandlers, using a mixer wagon to feed cattle, all hay and silage making equipment, round and conventional balers.
During harvest time, I grain and bale cart, alongside various cultivation. I can also operate a 360 digger of various sizes, again as and when needed.
2012-2016 I was self-employed working for a company who carried out all types of fencing, including private and commercial. Building repairs, and groundwork, which included concreting, drainage work, and building construction.
2002-2012 This was a 900 acre mixed farm, and my responsibility was for 800 breeding ewes, and followers, including 350 Dorset ewes who Lambeg during November. The February lambers were a mixture of Suffolk X Mules, and Mules. My duties included worming, vaccinations, foot trimming, and administering anti- bionics. I was also in charge of selecting lambs for live market, as well as selling straight to slaughter.
Another part of my job was to help out at harvest time, and also hop picking during the month of September.
The tractors used on this farm were Ford's and Voltras, as well as a Matbro telehandler. I also fenced, hedge cut, and helped during hay making, as and when required.
