2015-2022 - groundkeeper and tractor operator- starting as a volunteer position whilst still in primary school I helped maintain the fencing, hedging, waterways, woodland and grassland of a small holding. As I aged this position became paid and I quickly grew to be in charge of the upkeep as well as taking on the tractor work (harrowing, muck carting, fert spreading, hedge cutting). I quickly grew in my position ended up in a position with a lot of authority, people working under me, and lots of responsibility.
2021-2022 - general farm worker - I started working on this large beef farm in October 21 whilst still maintaining my responsibilities at the small holding. In this role I progressed my tractor abilities including road work, mowing, bailing and muck spreading. I also started to develop my tele handler skills and was soon tasked with bedding and feeding the cattle. I was taught how to keep beef cattle healthy clean and warm as well as conditioning for slaughter. As well as this together me and the farmer renovated his farm house which allowed me to demonstrate and develop my building and carpentry skills.
2022-2023 - dairy herdsman - I left the beef farm and moved away to clitheroe where I started my dairying career. In this position responsibilities were pushed upon me due to other staff leaving and being unable to replace them. I was soon responsible for the large majority of the farm jobs doing everything from the milking twice a day to job adverts and sorting staffing issues. I thoroughly enjoyed and developed a deep passion for my cows. During this time I also worked for the local contractors undertaking tasks such as buckraking, silaging, some forager driving and machinery maintenance
2023 - current -contracting- as summer came I left my dairy position to work as a contractor during the busy season. This included cereal harvest work, drilling, cultivation, slurrying, raking and bale carting. I was also taught to operate a new Holland combine although the wet season ensured my time on the machine was limited. This work allowed me to develop my arable skills developed from a family of arable farmers and my childhood helping them.
