Livestock Farm Manager job - Parsonage Down National Nature Reserve <-->Wiltshire<-->

Farm TypeBeef, Sheep

With the support of a small hard working team the job mainly involves managing the livestock at Parsonage Down NNR.  It is a mixed farming system of extensively grazed cattle and sheep.  We have a commercial suckler herd and the oldest breeding herd of English Longhorn cattle in the UK.  Currently we buy in ewe lambs each year and plan to do the same with beef stores.

Parsonage Down NNR is one of the largest remaining pieces of chalk grassland left in the UK, located next to Salisbury Plain. It's the site of Natural England's only working farm, where we have aspirations to develop a sustainable and productive beef farm.

We are looking an enthusiastic person who loves working with livestock and has a passion for how our food is produced. An interest in farm wildlife would be an advantage but not essential. You will need the full range of skills associated with managing this type of livestock and the machinery operating skills associated with a mixed farm e.g. tractor, driving.

You will be responsible for the day to day running of the farm so will need to be good at organising work and like working with other people.  An understanding of Health & Safety associated with farming is also important.
