Dairy Assistant Herdsperson job in <->South Lincolnshire<-> with 300 cows

Dairy assistant herdsperson - 300 cow milking herd – South Lincolnshire.  We require an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join our small dedicated team who share all duties such as; milking, calving and feeding the herd of 300 Holstein-Friesian cows. A good package is on offer for the right candidate with a recently renovated 3 bedroom house available as part of this. The role:  An experienced herdsperson is required to work alongside the existing herd manager and current team of 3, sharing responsibility for all day-to-day tasks on this dairy unit.  Cows are block calved in autumn and are milked through a 18:36 parlour with some cubicles and some straw yards. The herd is fed TMR year round and dry cows and low yielders are out on grass during spring and summer. Tasks and responsibilities Milking and all dairy tasks - The herd consists of 300 Holstein-Friesian cows yielding above 9,000 litres on average. Foot trimming - Feet are addressed in-house with regular foot bathing as required. AI - Insemination of the cows is also carried out in-house by the team. Heat time and observation are key during this period. Assisting with calving - From June to December, with the bulk being before September.  Feeding using Siloking mixer wagon and loader - Cows are fed TMR year round, with no in-parlour feeding. Scraping out using a tractor.  Calf feeding and management. All stock health and husbandry tasks.  Care and maintenance of the equipment used. Recording data. Minimum requirements: Experience is necessary, although attitude is more important and training is available.  Courses will be offered and supported as required to support professional development.  We are looking for someone who: Is a conscientious herdsperson who has previous experience of dairy farming, preferably on block-calving systems. Has recent and relevant experience in a similar role. Take prides in their work, has high standards with respect to animal welfare and husbandry, and shows good attention to detail. Is an excellent team player who communicates well.   Remuneration:  We offer a competitive salary, regular time off and high quality accommodation free from rent.   The Farm: The modern and progressive farm comprises of 1500 acres growing cereals, potatoes, sugar beet, grass and maize. The herd has 300 milking cows, with heifers sent to a heifer rearer. There are good facilities on the farm for both staff and cows and we are continually improving and investing. Key farm facts are: Modern 18:36 parlour ACRs ADF Backing gate Shedding gate to separate cows Housing for 150 cows on cubicles (with mats) Excellent handling facilities.  Foot trimming crush Mixer wagon Telehandlers Nutrition: Grass and maize silage is made on-farm and wheat is also grown on-farm. Nutritional advice is carried out by an external nutritionist. Location: The farm is located 5 miles north of Bourne and 20 miles from Peterborough, close to all amenities, but also has good local schools.
